Paper Butterflies

Paper Butterflies

Fresh flowers are expensive, so to keep the cost of decorations for the Garden Party down, I’m going to make paper butterflies and paper flowers. I’ve never made either, so I decide to start with the butterflies since they seem a little easier.

Things You’ll Need:

– Butterfly pattern
– Decorative paper
– Scissors
– Glue (Modge Podge)

1. Print and cut the pattern. I increased the scale of the pattern above so my final butterflies are about 9 1/2 inches wide.

2. Choose the paper you will use and trace the pattern onto the paper.

3. Cut out the butterfly.

4. Repeat using a second piece of paper. I chose a different paper design for the reverse side, but you could also choose the same paper.

5. Crinkle the paper butterflies to soften them and give them some texture.

6. Glue the two butterflies together, with the patterned side facing outward.

7. Use modge podge or other decoupage glue to coat one side of the butterfly. Let it dry completely and then do the same to the reverse side.

8. Let it dry and then you can mold the butterflies a bit to make the wings tilt slightly  upward.

That’s it!
